Visa application fee is AUD $2,500 as of 2026. Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is also mandatory, typically AUD $300-600+/year depending on family size and provider.

Post-Study Work Visa
Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) — 2 years for bachelor's and master's (coursework) degrees, 3 years for master's (research) or PhD graduates, plus a regional bonus for eligible study outside major cities. The older 4-6 year extensions for skill-shortage degrees ended in mid-2024 and no longer apply. Applicants must generally be under 35 (exceptions apply for Master's-by-Research, PhD, and Hong Kong/BNO passport holders, who can apply up to age 50), and must apply within 6 months of course completion. Application fee rose to AUD $4,600 in March 2026, then again to AUD $5,750 on 1 July 2026 — budget for the current rate, not older figures you may see cited elsewhere. Since 1 July 2024, 485 holders can no longer switch to a Student visa while onshore; you'd need to depart Australia first.
PR / Permanent Residence Pathway
Skilled visa (subclass 482/186) with a AUD $79,423/year Core Skills minimum salary threshold (effective 1 July 2026, up from $76,515), or points-tested permanent skilled visas via SkillSelect. A separate, higher Specialist Skills threshold applies to certain high-value occupations.
